So, obviously, I don't post that often, because this is really Blubba's show. But I do visit here often, read and make suggestions to Blubba regarding his posts, and almost obsessively check the comments and Sitemeter. So I'm more of a "behind the scenes" participant over here at Fat Man...Skinny Wallet.
But I am coming out of the shadows briefly here, because, having read the comments obsessively, I have seen how supportive the Healthy You Challengers are to Blubba. Which is so fantastic; I can't even tell you how much I appreciate it. And I agree with all of you that Blubba is too self-denigrating about his weight loss, and I have told him as much before. I think he feels like what we've been doing isn't horribly difficult, so it must not be effective, and that any weight loss is therefore a lucky accident. Between me and all of you, we can convince him that he's working hard and seeing results.
But that kind of brings me to why I am appealing to you, HYC readers. I mentioned awhile ago that I want to lose about 20 pounds, and I've been working just as hard as Blubba. We've been working out and eating so much better over the last two weeks, and I'm so proud of us. We've been doing great! Except...well...I thought I would be seeing some results by now. Even half a pound. Something. But no, the faithful Tanita remains stuck on the same number it showed me two weeks ago. Maybe it's mad at us. But in the absence of psychological games being played by the scale, I'm left to wonder...why?
So I turn to you, HYC readers, in a craven request for a little boosting. I realize that I am not as overweight as Blubba, so I wouldn't expect to see dramatic results as quickly, but I don't think I am unrealistic in thinking that I could have seen a half a pound or pound coming off right away. Help me, HY Challengers, help me! Please give me reassurances that I'm doing the right things, and that the weight will come off! Those of you who have managed to lose the weight and get healthy (you are so my heroes, by the way!), how soon can I see some results, given that I don't have a huge amount to lose?
Thanks guys. I'm feeling a little weak today in resolve because of the lack of progress, and I hope you can help me buck up.

Let me give you a brief history on my weight issues. I am 36 years old and I have been overweight 36 years...there you go, the history. I have tried numerous times to lose weight and pretty everything failed, some of my own doing. Anyway, what is working for me is Weight Watchers. I find that when I journal what I eat and be honest with yourself (this includes measuring everything) you will find that you tend to eat more than you really think you are eating. If you want to send me one day's worth of what you ate I will tell you how many pts you ate that day and if it was in range of what it should be. Also, are you drinking your water? IMPORTANT...I don't lose if I don't drink it. Are you doing the same exercise? Switch it around a bit. What I have read a great deal on and what I am doing myself is I do interval training (I think that's what it is called). I prefer bike riding so I will go at a decent speed for about 5 minutes, then for about 2 minutes I go as fast as I can, then slow back down for 5 minutes, rinse, repeat. Supposedly this helps. Change things around a bit and I bet you will see the numbers fall again.
The other big thing is to make sure you're eating *enough* food to make up for your activities... If you're working out and eating light, your body will go into a fat-storing mode. "Oh my god, I'm not eating AND I'm being chased by a LION! EEEEK!"
My husband, when he doesn't get enough to eat, actually GAINS weight. I mean, how screwed up is that? If you don't want to do weight watchers, you might try the daily plate for food and exercise tracking... their calorie counts are pretty good and match up with Weight Watchers IF you are eating all of your flex points. I don't, so I usually come up about 300 - 500 calories "short" on any given day...
Hi, Mrs. Blubba! I read the post about you at the HYC site. I think it's great that you are adopting a healthier lifestyle right alongside Mr. Blubba! The support that you can give each other is going to be outstanding!
It sounds like you're doing everything right, so my advice would be to continue doing what you are doing, and the scale will definitely show it soon. Also, have you been watching your sodium intake? And have you been drinking plenty of water?
One more thing... Diana/Scale Junkie thinks that you should start your own blog. And I agree! hehe
You've been given great advice. My additional comment is similar to what I gave your husband a moment ago. Both of you should incorporate strength training into your routines. You can start off with one day a week and work your way to 3 a week for maximal results.
The Strength Training is such an important part of the weight loss journey. You body needs a balance between the cardio, strength and food intake equation. There are many things you can do from home. Dumbbells and body weight work great. There's a really good collection of Sparkpeople videos on YouTube that can walk you through any time segment routine. From 3 minutes to 30 minutes. Start experimenting, don't be afraid to change it up (it's great for you body to change things up every 4 to 6 weeks) and have fun.
Especially for the last 20-5 lbs loss, it's critical that you take your body measurements and start focusing on your body composition. If you're already around 30% body fat, then the change in percentages will be more profound in your lost inches rather than the scale. Plus, all your clothes will start feeling better. A good healthy drop in percentages is about 1% a month. If you're new to strength training, then you might find a slightly higher drop because those new to strength training will see the results quicker!
On the blogging front, I have a good friend that blogs along side with her husband. Here's the blog. I think it's awesome because they can contribute whenever they want and it doesn't affect the other. MooreThoughts.
I think it would be awesome for a couple in a weight loss journey! Plus this means you only have to keep track of one blog. The behind the scenes doesn't increase that much!
